DiGRA Japan Annual Meeting held in August 1, 2008

DiGRA Japan will have an annual meeting in August 1, 2008 at the University of Tokyo. It is a open conference and some reports on the activities in FY 2007 including this DiGRA2007 will be presented!

DiGRA2007 papers ranked in “top 10 list of academic findings” at GDC08

In Game Studies Download session at Game Developers Conference 08 on February 20, 2008, DiGRA2007 papers including “What’s My Game Character Worth – The Value Components of MMOG Characters” by Tomi Kujanpää, Tony Manninen and Laura Vallius were ranked in the top 10 list of academic findings and the “shadow list” of research findings that the editors couldn’t fit on the first top 10 list for GDC.

All the papers presented at DiGRA2007 Tokyo: Situated Play are available at DiGRA Digital Library.

CD-ROM shipping troubles and report writing

We found that we did not send DiGRA2007 CD-ROM proceeding to some attendees (perhaps 6 people) in this month. Our printing agency failed to make up the complete shipping address list, so we had complete the rest of addresses finally and shipped CD-ROMs in this week.

As the fiscal year in Japan closes in March, so we’re making up some report of DiGRA2007(in Japanese).

GamesCultures.org for the future research network

Frans Mäyrä, DiGRA2007 International Advisory Board, had announced new site GamesCulture.org provided by International Study of Games Cultures (InGa) project. It says:

In the spirit of the recent “Situated Play” conference (DiGRA 2007), we propose a collaborative effort of collecting together research, observation and data about forms of play around the world.

We have more than 350 attendees from 29 counties in DiGRA2007 Tokyo. At DiGRA2007 we found that we have own unwritten history of game research in each environment — language, culture, school, and market.

In addition, we’d had a trouble to get enough reviewers before the conference. We’ll need more contributors in the future international conference. And now is the time to build a global network of game researchers.

CD-ROM shipping completed

Sorry to be late!

We found there are some people who did not receive CD-ROM proceedings. We checked our printing agency again, and completed shiping all CD-ROMs in this week, Finally, CD-ROM proceedings will be arrived in one or two weeks.

Maybe some people will receive CD-ROM twice, at the conference and via postal , as our CD-ROM delivery list during the conference is not complete.

Building Online Proceedings

Along with shipping CD-ROMs, we started uploading DiGRA2007 CD-ROM proceedings and adding the metadata into DiGRA Digital Library.

As some papers in CD-ROM contain Asian fonts, we’re uploading updated file (like this paper). We will finish the registration of all 100+ papers in a week.

To All Participants,

thank you very much for your support for DiGRA 2007.

We are writing to you regarding the CD-ROM version of the Proceedings. As the result of the utmost effort to assure the quality of the CD-ROM Proceedings, its delivery date could not be earlier than the 28th of September, the last date of the conference. For some participants who left before this date, the CD-ROM could not be handed to them within the conference period. JAPAX now send the CD-ROM to you by mail. If you get two or the more CD-ROMs, you need not to return them. We apologize for the inconvenience.
